Oh, no! More "Conservative" Bluff Bills

Oh, no! More "Conservative" Bluff Bills

Published March 4, 2024

Truth be told, our team is utterly drained from poring over countless bills that veer sharply away from the conservative trajectory. Yet, our resolve remains unshaken.

Prepare for a week replete with unexpected twists, as the SC legislative agenda brims with an array of peculiar bills.

Here is a preview of what’s coming up:

H5164: Education Scholarship Trust Fund

H5164: Education Scholarship Trust Fund - The E.P.W. K-12 Subcommittee is meeting on Tuesday, March 5, immediately after the adjournment of the House. This bill, part 2 of S39 ESTF, was passed by the general assembly last session. The ESTF, plain and simple, allows qualifying South Carolina parents to apply for a scholarship worth $6,000.

Who manages this program? The SC Department of Education, making it a government program.

PAUSE: South Carolinians: This bill's being rushed through with indecent haste, hitting the House Full Education and Public Works Full Committee's desk barely a day later. What's the rush? Seems like the general assembly's eager to shove this half-baked, non-conservative mess down our throats right after the first part. The crux of the matter? SC public education is a trainwreck, and the SC Department's fixes are nowhere in sight. Now, they're keen on dumping more cash into the black hole of private schools and, astonishingly, into the laps of homeschoolers, guided by their consistently failed policies. And yeah, homeschoolers, you're in this too, eligible for a slice of this misguided government giveaway. More on this debacle here.

This bill is a strong: OPPOSE!

H5118: South Carolina 10-Year Energy Transformation Act

This bill is BIG! And after a quick read, it seems the South Carolina Bill H5118, known as the "South Carolina Ten-Year Energy Transformation Act," closely aligns with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles (YIKES!) and the broader climate change agenda (DOUBLE YIKES!). It further inflates government interference with a slew of problematic laws in an industry already strangled by monopolies.

The LCI Public Utilities Subcommittee meeting is on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, 1.5 hours after adjournment to discuss this significant bill.

S965: Vaccination Discrimination Prevention Act

This bill is resurfacing, and let's be clear: it's not going to achieve its intended purpose. It's riddled with loopholes and, even more troubling, it paves the way for government overreach. We've dissected this bill previously.

S975: Vaccines and Public Health

The bill claims to protect, but let's be clear: it's a mess. After reviewing it, it's obvious it needs a massive overhaul, particularly its definitions, which pave the way for even more government overreach. The simplest solution? Scrap the problematic laws altogether and give medical freedom back to the people. But perhaps axing unconstitutional laws is deemed too radical or too conservative? Makes you think, doesn't it?

PAUSE: We should never attempt to fix a bad bill because attempting to fix it will only lead to making it worse.

The Senate Medical Affairs Committee will discuss these bills on March 7, at 10 a.m.

Legislative ACTION

Dive into these bills and scrutinize the fine print. The ugly is in the details—details exposing truths our "conservative" lawmakers conveniently omit. Why the secrecy? Likely because they haven't bothered to read or grasp the content themselves. They parrot talking points from those pushing for passage, which hardly ever echo the true sentiments of South Carolinians.

Once you've dissected the bills and grasped the underlying issues, don't keep it to yourself. Broadcast it to anyone who'll listen—except your elected officials, apparently. It's crucial to highlight that the bulk of legislation being rubber-stamped this session strays far from genuine Conservative values.
