INCOMPATIBILITY: Words That Do Not Match Reality

Published Nov 20, 2024

As we look toward the coming legislative session in South Carolina, it is imperative that those who wish to protect and preserve our liberty, safety, and stability must NOT fall for deceptive rhetoric from anyone. Our legislators in particular, and their avid followers, are designing creative ways to encourage people to laud their efforts by trying to convince us they are doing exactly the opposite of what is best by misrepresenting and redefining the words with which they present the “goodness” of the laws they pass.

A perfect example continues to be the fanatical promotion of “school choice” in any form.  An effective, if completely erroneous, phrase being exclaimed even by the most “conservative” to justify school choice LAW is that it offers “educational freedom.”  How does it do that?  Apparently this will occur by giving us a choice of streams determined by LAW (i.e. the GOVERNMENT) that can provide GOVERNMENT money so we can choose GOVERNMENT schooling options.  Please!  In what way does a list of choices in a LAW that offers GOVERNMENT options coexist with the concept of “educational freedom?”  The plethora of laws being proposed for the next session only will grow the POLICE POWER of the STATE and impose more GOVERNMENT burdens on people. all the while restricting and controlling their freedom, not protecting or preserving it.  Freedom will be superseded by laws that destroy real freedom.

A quick consideration.  How, in any state, does anyone have true educational freedom under COMPULSORY attendance law?  That is the most basic question and the root of the problem of our loss of educational freedom.  Then to add both LAW and GOVERNMENT  control through funding and available “choices,” which are not sufficiently expansive to truly allow parental freedom of choice, is a travesty that completely abrogates any hope of freedom.

Yet what do our legislators tout?  They proclaim their own fine leadership and lies about what they are doing—easily accepted by those who want to be able to have someone make their decisions for them, believe what they are told, blindly accept what they are told they can and should do, and will vote for these destroyers of freedom again and again, because these elected officials are able to so successfully deceive the people about their integrity—or lack thereof.

We have reached the edge of the precipice.  Without intelligent, wise, bold, and independent leaders, we will take another step down the path of totalitarianism under the guise of “educational freedom.”  Can we really afford to do this, given the implications for our children, the future of our state and nation, and the prosperity and safety we once had?  Please be discerning, critical, and diligent in working to stop this disastrous rhetoric and its certain trajectory.
