Are you a Republican?

Are you a Republican?

Published July1, 2025

Everyone understands that Republicans advocate for limited, constitutional government.  Let us examine the ways Republican SC state legislators, who hold a "super-majority," demonstrate their commitment to these Republican principles.

Republicans pass a lot of laws.

It is a proven axiom that more laws limit the power of government.  By carefully defining words and keeping the scope of each law to just one topic, our legislators are sure they are not growing government in any way or intruding on our personal lives.  The comprehensive knowledge of the state statutes held by legislators and their advisors helps ensure there is no duplication, excess wording, confusion, or other errors.  By using easily accessed state websites, everyone can readily find out what “the law” says so we will not make mistakes.  Some people seem to think laws might infringe on personal freedom, but good laws never do that.  We are safe under the benevolent care and wisdom of our noble legislators.  The police power of the State will ensure most of us follow the laws, without increasing government power, so we do not have to worry about getting into trouble.

Republicans raise taxes.

Obviously, if you want an efficient and cost-effective government, a lot of money is needed to cover all the government’s responsibilities.  The increasing complexity and scope of living in these times requires that our government save us from more dangers than ever before.  The people themselves cannot possibly do it without lots of help.  And help costs money.  Thank goodness our super-majority of Republicans is willing to pass more laws so that we have all this extra protection.

Republicans identify more special interest groups.

This activity is helpful in many ways.  It finds new uses for taxpayer money, from the rich to benefit the more deserving, disadvantaged, or those identified by other criteria.  This further may help reduce taxes by taking less from (or otherwise reducing a cost or codifying some other benefit or protection for) members of the identified group.  This is also equitable so that everyone can get closer to the same outcome.

Republicans historically establish numerous oversight bodies, departments, committees, and commissions to implement and enforce their regulations.

These groups help develop the most efficient ways to conduct government activities.  They might need money to fulfill their duties, but luckily funding can be easily obtained by the government’s power to tax—endlessly.

In addition, they set up the necessity for bureaucratic support for more laws so lots of people can be gainfully employed, helping to provide job opportunities for thousands of South Carolinians—a proper role of government.  Win!  Win!

Republicans limit the bureaucracy by placing more power in the hands of directors of fewer monolithic and gargantuan departments.

This is especially wonderful, providing a twofer.  Fewer people are needed to accomplish more control of the population more quickly when needed.  And, while these people need and deserve high payment for their services, it is possible that by consolidating power in the hands of a few, the costs of duplicative workers and agencies can be minimized.  So many opportunities for economies of scale and efficiency!  Except for the enormous staff needed to implement their directives.  Darn!  Let us not worry about that.

Republicans define and clarify (or re-define and obfuscate?) the vocabulary they will use in their laws to avoid any misunderstanding.

This, of course, helps us all understand exactly how the government wants us to think, act, and obey each codified law regarding every detail of modern life they can think up so we are properly obedient.  These definitions are the law and should not be misinterpreted, lest we think they are anything but helpful.  It is unfortunate that after the helpful sections of definitions, the laws themselves often fall victim to a host of relative, ambiguous, and subjective words that may require interpretation by an authority, should there be any negative response once the law is enacted.

Republicans are getting into more detail so that “We the People” do not make mistakes.

Following the lead of the federal government exhibited years ago with helpful laws like the important detail of federally legislating the allowable amount of water to be used when flushing the toilet, there seem to be fewer areas of living without a plethora of laws defining their essential components.

It is ever so thoughtful of Republicans to help us with minute details that might inadvertently cause us to overstep the line of what is allowed by law.

Congratulations!

If you were able to understand the double-speak and illogical thinking exhibited in the above comments, then You must be a Republican!
